As a cop, I used to sit on one side of the interview room table, facing murderers, child abductors and rapists. Now I’ve seen what it looks like from the other side: disgraced, forced out of the police and found to be a criminal. I want to show you what the view’s like.
Working with crooks, cops, forensic psychologists and scientists, as well as the victims, I’ve taken another look at some of our worst crimes, including serial killings carried out by Ivan Milat and the Granny Killer, the murder of Anita Cobby, the Hoddle Street massacre, Port Arthur, the Parramatta girls home and the disappearance of preschooler William Tyrrell. What I’ve found has made me question everything I knew about evil, including where it comes from, what drives people to carry out acts of badness and how we can prevent them. The answers will surprise you.
